Parish Fields (Plough Corner)Little Clacton Parish Field was formerly run by The Recreational Trust. In 1968 Little Clacton Parish Council purchased 7.2 acres at Plough Corner for £1,000. A further 10 acres were added in 1974 for £3,100. The purpose of this was to provide the village with a recreational field. During 1973/74 the Parish Council sold off part of the land to the Post Office and Essex County Council for £9,500. Parishioners at a Parish Council meeting decided this money should be spent on creating a pavilion the shell of which, costing £9,000, was completed in1977. A Charitable Trust was set up in 1982. The Trust decided to install an all-weather hard surface, floodlit sports’ complex costing £48,000. A grant was made by the Parish Council of £12,000. The complex was opened in 1988. To date Parish Fields is an 18 acre sport and community area. Accessed by a parish road, sport facilities include 15 acres of playing field with a floodlit practice pitch, a pavilion with changing rooms, showers and a kitchen and two surfaced floodlit play courts. A community and youth centre is on the southern side of the site facing a youth meeting shelter and the large car parks. The site is held on behalf of the village by the Parish Council and managed by independent committees made up of local residents. The centre and playing fields are very popular and in constant use and money raised from lettings and car boot sales enable both facilities to be self supporting. The new management committee for the sports area have exciting plans for the future and are saving income to commence the refurbishment of the pavilion to include new toilets, changing rooms and disabled access facilities. A ladies football team has recently made Parish Fields it’s home ground and it is hoped that the Little Clacton Cricket Club will return to the village.
