In 1968 Little Clacton Parish Council purchased
7.2 acres at Plough Corner for £1,000. Further land was acquired in 1974
for £3,100 with a view to providing the village with a recreational
field. Part of the land was then sold to The Post Office and Essex County
Council for £9,000 and at a meeting of the Parish Council, Parishioners
decided to use the sale proceeds to commence construction of a pavilion,
the shell of which was completed in 1977.
With monies raised from use of the field,
together with Grants, a floodlit all-weather sports area and tennis court
was installed costing £48,000 and the complex was opened in 1988. With
further Grants and match funding a new toilet block and additional
changing rooms were added in 2007.
A Youth and Community Hall is on the southern
side of the site facing a youth meeting shelter, and was for some years
used as a Youth Club. Whilst the Youth Club has now closed the facility
has proved popular with many local organisations as a meeting hall. By
2009 the Parish Council decided a major upgrading of the hall was required
together with new toilets and kitchen. The opportunity was also taken to
incorporate an additional Meeting room and Parish Office. With grants and
match funding the project was commenced and completed in 2010. The
extended and refurbished Hall is now very suitable for Functions, Clubs
and other meetings.
A management committee of local residents is
responsible for the day to day management of the complex on behalf of the
Parish Council .
The Parish Fields complex is accessed by a
private road and now comprises a Sports Pavilion with showers , changing
rooms and toilet block, 15 acres of playing fields, floodlit all weather
court and tennis court ( available free to local residents during daylight
hours), a Memorial Garden , Youth and Community Hall , Parish Office,
Meeting Room and car park.
Income from the hire of the Hall , playing
fields car boot sales and other events enable the complex to be self
funding and the management committee endeavour to maintain and improve the
facilities to a high standard .
