Little Clacton Village GreensJubilee Oak Green The first time this was mentioned in Parish Council minutes was 1902 when at the time of King Edward VII Coronation the fence around the Jubilee Oak was repaired. The oak tree was planted at the time of Queen Victoria’s Jubilee. So we have moved on to the Millennium Year when a new steel fence was put around the tree in July of that year and was dedicated by Rev. David Newman. Village Green (Chestnut Green) This was formerly much more extensive reaching for about ˝ mile along the main road from beyond Elm Road and with it’s southern end overlooked by a little thatched cottages grouped near the Church. Today The Green that boasts thirteen mature Horse Chestnut trees, the War Memorial (moved from the Methodist Church in recent years) and several seats only has a frontage of 50 yards. On the west side of the green is a footpath still known as the Canser. Galloway Green The Canser path leads to Galloway Drive and “fronting” the drive is the green on which the village signs stands. Meadow Millenium Green This would have been part of the original Village Green, although it has always been meadowland within living memory. It was purchased from Essex County Council after prolonged negotiations during the late 1990s. The purchase was made possible with a sizeable grant from Countryside Commission also help from Little Clacton Parish Council. A group of trustees look after it.
